The Ohio Fetal Medicine Collaborative (OFMC) is the result of multiple health care institutions coming together to achieve a common goal of providing high-risk expectant mothers, and their babies with suspected fetal diagnoses, the highest quality care. The OFMC provides high-risk pregnancy health care, diagnostic services and treatment, as well as care for baby after delivery. All of this is done in a family-centered environment, with caring medical professionals. Individually, these hospital systems are among the finest hospitals in the country, demonstrating leadership in patient care, research and technology. As a collaborative, they provide the unique blend of experience and expertise necessary to address the complex issues associated with high-risk fetal care.

OFMC Mission

The OFMC is a group of perinatal care providers and institutions committed to achieving optimal perinatal outcomes by providing excellent maternal-fetal care for pregnancies complicated by fetal abnormalities. We believe that best outcomes can be achieved through comprehensive care provided by a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals. The OFMC believes that collaboration among the members:

Dayton Children's Hospital

One of only 45 independent freestanding children’s hospitals in the country, Dayton Children’s serves a region of 20 Ohio counties and eastern Indiana, caring for more than 285,000 children each year. Dayton Children’s is home to the region’s most comprehensive newborn intensive care unit, treating more than 600 critically ill newborns each year. Just recently Dayton Children’s joined Miami Valley Hospital in the Southwest Ohio Neonatal Collaborative, an alliance formed to elevate the quality of care for newborns and improve the continuum of care for expectant mothers. Together, the two hospitals share a nurse navigator who helps women facing a high-risk pregnancy navigate the care options available at the two hospitals. Consistently recognized as one of the country’s best and most cost-effective pediatric hospitals, Dayton Children’s is one of just 31 pediatric hospitals in the country to receive Magnet recognition for nursing excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Miami Valley Hospital

The internationally recognized Center for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Ultrasound & Genetics at Miami Valley Hospital offers some of the nation’s most advanced technology and experienced professionals in Maternal-Fetal Medicine. Our expert team is dedicated to providing competent and compassionate care. Because we work closely with the primary obstetrician, moms can be confident that they will receive informed, individualized and comprehensive treatment through every stage of pregnancy and childbirth. Our clinical staff includes: five board-certified maternal fetal medicine specialists – available 24/7; 23 registered and accredited perinatal sonographers – the most of any perinatal center in the U.S.; three board-certified genetic counselors, ten high-risk obstetrics nurses, and a support staff committed to serving the unique needs of our patients. MVH also offers high-risk labor and delivery options at Dayton’s only perinatal intensive care unit and the region’s most experienced Level IIIB NICU. Mount Carmel

The center provides comprehensive, state-of-the-art diagnostic and monitoring services and genetic counseling that can detect pregnancy complications and fetal abnormalities. Those findings allow physicians and patients to take precautions and ensure that our patients’ pregnancies – and their babies – are as safe and healthy as possible. The center has been recognized by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) and approved as a satellite research site for The Ohio State University Medical Center Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine. As a destination for highly specialized care for pregnant women, Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Riverside Methodist Hospital provides personalized care for women who are at risk for pregnancy related problems. Our highly trained and experienced team includes ultrasound technologists, nurse clinicians, genetic counselors and maternal-fetal medicine specialists. The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center

For 30 years, The Maternal Fetal Medicine program at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center has been delivering the very best prenatal care to patients experiencing a high-risk pregnancy. Our team of specialists provides patients with the highest level of obstetrical care for high-risk problems in both the mother and the fetus. Maternal Fetal Medicine program Ohio State has had a Fetal Therapy Program since 1993 specializing in providing medical and surgical care to the fetus weeks before birth to improve the outcomes of the babies and prevent prematurity. In addition, the OSU Fetal Program provides comprehensive individualized care for pregnancies with any type of birth defect from diagnosis until delivery. Fetal Therapy Program As leaders and members of national collaborative research efforts, including the North American Fetal Treatment Network, our program provides opportunities for patients to participate in research that will further improve care of high-risk pregnancies.
